Responsibility

At JAQ GELLARD, responsibility begins with intention.

We design with purpose, not to meet seasonal trends or arbitrary gender lines, but to create emotionally resonant clothing that endures. Each capsule is crafted to work back with previous collections, building wardrobes piece by piece, story by story.

We recognise that making anything has an impact. But we believe that when a garment is designed to move you– when it’s worn, cherished, and passed on– it does more than clothe the body. It becomes part of your life. That’s the power of considered design: it asks more from the wearer, and offers more in return.

Made to Last

Every garment begins with meticulous sourcing and thoughtful construction. Our first collection has been three years in the making– a process driven by a refusal to compromise on quality. Fabrics were tested, fits refined, and each detail perfected in collaboration with a local patternmaker. This standard of care is not the exception, but the foundation of how we design.

Fabric Choices

We prioritise natural fibres, using blends only when they extend the life or performance of a piece. Our fabrics are sourced through trusted local suppliers, including high-quality deadstock, that is surplus luxury materials that would otherwise go to waste. Many originate from textile mills in Japan and Italy, chosen for their craftsmanship and longevity.

Denim: Heavyweight, 98%+ cotton denim, pre-shrunk and built to mould to your body with time.

Cotton: Organic or recycled where possible, favouring durability, breathability, and a low environmental footprint.

Local Production

All garments from our first collection are proudly made in Australia. Our production partners are local factories with over 30 years of experience — family-run operations that honour their makers and uphold Australian workplace standards. Producing locally not only supports skilled craftsmanship, but significantly reduces the carbon footprint of our early collections.

Packaging

All orders are shipped from Sydney, Australia. Each piece is wrapped in tissue and sent in a reusable cardboard box- no unnecessary plastics, ever. From the factory to our studio, our garments travel less than 30km before reaching us, keeping our footprint low and our process local.

Looking Forward

We’re committed to transparency, not just in what we make, but how we evolve. While we currently manufacture locally, we know that future growth may require us to work with international makers. These partners will be carefully selected, with a continued focus on ethical practices, sustainability, and quality.

As we expand, so too will our opportunity to reduce waste, innovate with materials, and give back- both to the industry and the communities that shape us.
